Grays Reef 3

Did you know that Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary is one of the largest near-shore “live-bottom” reefs and it is the only protected natural reef located on the continental shelf off the Georgia coast? Only 22 square mile Gray’s Reef is just a small part of the U.S. territorial Atlantic Ocean, yet its value as a natural marine habitat is recognized nationally and internationally.

Join us at the Sapelo Visitor’s Center on March 16, when Suzanne VanParreren, from the Sapelo Island National Research Reserve will share with you the history of Grays Reef, explain the term “live bottom reef” and tell you what is happening to the reef right now.

This event is free and the public is invited.
